16th Annual Celebration Luncheon
Committee of 25, Girls Inc. of Central Alabama08/06/2008 11:45 AMOn Wednesday, August 6, 2008, Girls Incorporated of CentralAlabama will honor three distinguished Birmingham business leaders and three local
girls with its highest honor at the 16th annual Celebration Luncheon, continuing its
mission to inspire girls to be strong, smart and boldsm.
Ms. Suzanne Durham, CEO of YWCA Central Alabama, and Dr. Sandral Hullett,
CEO of Cooper Green Mercy Hospital, will each receive the nonprofit’s “She Knows
Where She’s Going Award,” recognizing their contributions to the community and the
roles they play in the lives of area women.
The late Mr. James P. Hayes Jr., former president of the Economic Development
Partnership of Alabama, will be posthumously awarded the “Helping Girls Get There
Award,” recognizing his efforts in creating opportunities for young women in the state.
Also, three young girls active in Girls Inc. programs across Central Alabama will each be
named “Girl of the Year” at the Celebration Luncheon: Amber Sue Hayes, from the
Walker County Center; Jalesa P. Latham, from the Bessemer Center; and Lauren Moorer,
from the Crestwood Center.
This year’s luncheon will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at the Cahaba Grand

Since 1938, Girls Incorporated of Central Alabama has provided programs for girls in the
Birmingham, Alabama area between the ages of 6 and 18. Today, the organization serves
approximately 10,000 girls throughout central Alabama, including Jefferson, Shelby,
Blount, St. Clair and Walker counties.
